Internet and Security
"How secure is the internet?" is a question we often get. It's not an easy question. We cannot say: "It's secure! Don't worry", or: "The internet is not secure at all. Watch your back!"

Asking such a question is more or less like asking:
"Is life secure?"

We like to give you some tips, guidelines and links regarding safer internetting.

  • Use an anti-virus program. This is probably the best tip we can give you, together with:
  • Update your anti-virus program regularly!

Please contact us to request our personal assistance with your anti-virus program.

  • Keep your username/password combination to yourself.
Do you give your bankpass and pincode to others? Of course not. Your username and password are also for you only.
It's your responsibility. If you give it to third parties, they can use it to surf the net on your account
This means, that you have to pay for another person's internet session!
  • Change your password every 90 days.
You can change your password yourself with no further cost. Even ten times a day if you wish.
Please follow this link to change your password right now.
  • Think of the internet as a whole as the world you live in.
When we were young, our parents tought us not to take candy from a stranger. Remember this when you are on-line!
Did somebody sent you an executable file via e-mail attachment? That's a bit like getting some sweets from a person you don't know and therefore cannot trust!
Don't open attachments unless you're ab-so-lu-tely sure what it is.
  • For advanced users and users who are almost always on-line, a personal firewall might be the best solution.
ZoneAlarm from Zonelabs is a good one (we use it ourselves). Better yet: it's free for personal use.
Please contact us to request our personal attention with your version of ZoneAlarm.
  • This link is for the security freaks amongst us: Shields Up! Internet Connection Security for Windows Users, by Steve Gibson.
"Without your knowledge or explicit permission, the Windows networking technology which connects your computer to the Internet may be offering some or all of your computer's data to the entire world at this very moment! -Shields UP! quickly checks the SECURITY of YOUR computer's connection to the Internet"

There's a whole lot more to know about internet and security. Is there something we left out on this page? Please tell us!
