Volunteer Program
Every weekday from 8.30 a.m. – 11.45 a.m. and on Saturdays from 9.00 a.m. - 13.00 p.m., adult individuals are welcome to join the Volunteer Program and assist Shelter Management by taking the animals from their kennels and allowing them exercise on the field. More than just playing with the dogs however, volunteers are expected to observe general health and behavior, informing the Manager of any problems and taking the dogs to the veterinarian if necessary. Parasite control is also a large part of the job – grooming the coat, removing ticks and fleas, and ensuring that the animals are regularly treated against these life-threatening invaders. At times the volunteer’s first hand knowledge of each dog is put to use by assisting the Manager with helping a member of the public to choose just the right animal for their circumstances. Most importantly however, the volunteers are there to provide the extra love and care that the dogs and cats need on a daily basis, and which has been missing from their life since being abandoned at the Shelter. The cats especially respond to some quiet petting and playing. Volunteers need to be reliable and of mature attitude, ideally with some experience of animals, and not afraid to get hot, dirty and smelly!!

Please make acquaintance with Shaun Girigorie, one of the youngest shelter volunteers.
Shaun has already been coming to the shelter for a long time, to play with the dogs, allow them to exercise on the field and take care of them. In the picture: Shaun with a puppy in his lap that he just bathed.

Volunteers also observe general health and behavior and take the dogs to the veterinarian if necessary. In the picture: long term volunteer Yvette with Bibi and new volunteer Drea Freede with a pup, in the waiting room of the Veterinarian clinic.
JosÉ AND Javier who care for animals…

José and Javier Fermin are students and the younger brothers of shelter manager Andrew Berry. They started to work as volunteers the very first month that Andrew was employed and for more than two years now, every Saturday and also on special occasions like the Open House or during the October activities, you can meet them in the shelter, always busy cleaning, repairing, painting, taking care of the animals. They take their work very seriously, but enjoy it too and have a big smile for everyone. In the picture: José (soaking wet because of cleaning the kennels) and Javier posing with two pups, beautiful siblings that were just brought in.
The Board thanks José and Javier for their most appreciated assistance.

Adoption promotion
To save the life of as many animals as possible, adoption of Shelter Animals is promoted on a weekly basis via our website (“Pet of the Week”), Radio Dolfijn on Thursdays at 10.45 a.m., and in the local newspapers Amigoe and Antilliaans Dagblad.
If you are thinking of adopting a pet please consider a rescue animal when you add to your family. For shelter, food, tender care and a second chance, they will love you forever!
Click on the button: “Looking for a home” and you will find more pictures of the shelter animals that need a caring owner.
