Stichting Dierenbescherming relies on the support of many different sponsors: aid is given financially, given in kind (e.g., pet food, materials for cleaning etc), or through provision of services such as free sterilizations (local vets), free newspaper and radio coverage and free transportation of materials etc. Below are mentioned just a few of the many ways we receive help from the local and international community.
Website sponsoring
Since August 1997 the local internet provider “CuraNet” has supported the Dierenbescherming in a major way through the sponsorship and maintenance of our website. CuraNet’s web designers have developed a wonderful new homepage for us and the entire site was updated in June 2004. CuraNet readily acts as a professional reminder to us to contribute updates and keep the site fresh, and as a result of this hugely appreciated commitment, the Dierenbescherming is known all over the world and daily receives positive comments, donations and support from other countries.
Kennel Sponsors
At the beginning of each year a Kennel Sponsor Drive is held, with the welcome addition of new local companies to the group of sponsors that provide an essential annual contribution to the Shelter's day to day running costs. As a small gesture of gratitude, plates naming such sponsoring companies are attached to the relevant kennel. As at December 2007, 60 Kennel Sponsors support the Animal Shelter on an annual basis, some of them since 1992!

In the center of the shelter several displays are set up with name plates of the kennel sponsors.
Sponsoring of adoption promotion
Adoption is promoted weekly by an article in the Antilliaans Dagblad, an advertisement in the Amigoe sponsored by Europa Mode, a promotional program aired by Radio Dolfijn, and the “Looking for a Home” page on our website, sponsored by MIO. With this most generous support the amount of homeless animals to be placed in a new home will hopefully increase in 2008!
Transport sponsoring
In order to catch stray animals, we need cat and dog traps which we purchase from the USA. Unfortunately, however, transportation costs on such items are far more expensive than the cost price itself. On various occasions we have received very kind help from Caribbean Cargo Services, who have delivered the cages free of charge.
Animal Ambulance sponsoring
The Animal Ambulance donated by Foundation Animal Ambulance Hilversum (the Netherlands) on March 8th 2007, received support from UTS, (United Telecommunication Services) through a campaign called ‘Chippie cares for animals’, launched on October 4th 2007. A donation of Nafl. 6,000 has made it possible to assist wounded or sick animals after office hours and at the weekend. UTS assigned a new shorter number to the ambulance service: 9216.
Donations from Service Clubs
Several local Service Clubs raise funds for charities and regularly support the Dierenbescherming by means of donation or partial financing of a particular project. For many consecutive years the American Women’s Club, the Britannic Club,The Inner Wheel (an organization consisting of spouses of the members of the Rotary Club Curaçao) and the Rotary Club Curaçao have supported the projects of the Curaçao Society for the Protection of Animals with donations.
Sincere thanks to Board and members of these clubs for their help! Your support is highly appreciated!
Donations from abroad.
At times the Dierenbescherming is surprised and delighted to receive unexpected donations from overseas. Donations are coming from the Netherlands, England, Belgium, Gemany, USA and Canada. Via this message we would like to show our deepest appreciation for this most welcome support.
Annual Support from Foundation for Foreign Animal Shelters Holland (S.B.A.)
The Foundation for Foreign Animal Shelters (S.B.A. = Stichting Buitenlandse Asielen), located in the Netherlands, was founded 19 years ago when Board members visited Spain and were confronted with many stray animals that caused an enormous overpopulation in the shelters. They decided to establish a foundation with the objective to help animal shelters to deal with this problem. In the 19 years of existence the S.B.A. expanded their assistance and today 48 animal shelters in countries all over the world receive their support by means of donations and advice.
For many years, the S.B.A. financially supports the Curaçao Society for the Protection of Animals.
We herewith wish to convey our sincere gratitude to the Board of the S.B.A. and thank them for their continuous support throughout the years!! Interested? Visit the website of the S.B.A.:

Inheritances
It is a comforting thought that even after our deaths we are sometimes able to continuing helping a needy cause close to our hearts. We receive a surprising amount of bequeaths from deceased well-wishers and are also often in receipt of monies donated to us in lieu of flowers at funerals. The Board of the Society would like to express its gratitude to all that have made or are thinking of making, such a useful and beautiful gesture – we are deeply touched.

2008 DONATIONS
DONATION FROM ORANJE CASINO RESULTED IN
F 126.372,09.
For the third consecutive year Oranje Casino, an internet casino which can be visited at www.oranjecasino.com, has supported the Dierenbescherming with a substantial donation. Thanks to the Casino players who themselves choose the good cause to which they donate their bonus points, the donation for 2008 amounted to a massive f 126,372.09. This gives the society the fantastic opportunity to organize various important projects. First of all the dog kennels at the Shelter which have been repaired many times, but remain in a very bad condition, will be completely renovated.
With this donation the OPSC project (Operation Pet and Stray Control), which could not be undertaken last year, can be continued. This project has as main objective the education of the local populace about the importance of animal sterilization, and the provision of subsidized operations to ensure that the poorest families may be able to take responsible care of their pets. An extensive educational campaign will be launched with a new film for schoolchildren to inform them how to take care of pets. This film will be distributed in the schools on a DVD as the Animal’s Day project 2008. To inform adults about responsible pet ownership, new broadcasts will appear on television. All this is possible due to the incredible generosity of the Oranje Casino, for which the Dierenbescherming is exceptionally grateful.
On Friday March 7th, Anouk Reichert symbolically presented a cheque for f 120,000 to the Dierenbescherming on behalf of Oranje Casino which resulted later in the amount of f 126,372.09 due to the favorable exchange value.

Painting for the animals
Gerhard and Mieke Berendsen love animals and they also love Curaçao. For many years they have spent their vacation on the island, always paying a visit to the Animal Shelter. Gerhard creates the most beautiful paintings on driftwood, roof tiles and on walls, which are then sold and a large part of the profits are donated to the Shelter. Animal and art lovers can buy these works at Bar Restaurant Skaloko next to The Movies in Punda.
Gerhard and Mieke thank you so much for your fantastic support!

Carwash for the shelter animals!
A group of eight students from the Peter Stuyvesant College had the lovely idea of organizing a carwash to raise funds for the shelter animals. Tickets were sold before the event and on Sunday February 17 ticket holders arrived for their car wash. The students did an excellent job and cleaned the cars to perfection and the many animal lovers who had supported this fund raiser turned the event into a great success!

Wash station for the shelter dogs
Nicky and Mike Chalmers had the lovely idea of establishing a memorial for Anya, their cherished dog, puppy of Chollie, a street dog, who died aged just 4 of bone cancer. They wanted this memorial to be of use to the shelter animals, and eventually decided on a washing station, to be built on the field where the dogs are daily exercised, groomed and freed from parasites.
Nicky was a dedicated volunteer at the shelter for many years and returned to England in 2005 with her husband and three Curaçao dogs: Chollie, Toby and Silke. She is still involved in the activities of the ‘Dierenbescherming’ and weekly assists PR officer Ineke Cijntje with the website by correcting the English texts. Mike was in Curaçao for business and visited the shelter where he posed with the two shelter pets Tisha and Dilla that have been there for years, favorites of Nicky at the time she volunteered in the shelter.

Donation for the Animal Shelter
Before Sandra Beks, owner of the Dogs boutique 'Hippe Hond' (‘Trendy Dog’) in Eindhoven, Holland, departed on her vacation to Curaçao with husband and daughter, she visited the website of the Dierenbescherming. Thereafter, she emailed to Enquire whether the Shelter would have use for some articles from her boutique and naturally the answer was affirmative. Sandra arrived on Curacao with a very heavy box loaded with stainless steel food and water bowls, identification tags and beautiful trendy collars and leashes - a tremendous donation which will be put to good use in the shelter.
